Dave Harrington, New York-based multi-instrumentalist, jazz guitarist, composer, and one half of the famous duo, Darkside, returns to Belgrade on Friday, 3rd June, with the new Apgrade Live events. After his Belgrade concert in 2013, Dave returns to promote his new album “Become Alive”, which he also authored. The album was collaboration with Nicolasa Jaara, Valentin Stip, Nenad Marković, known to the public under the numerical pseudonym 33.10.3402. Spanish Meter Film Festival6-10 – Novi Sad
The Spanish Meter is the leading Spanish film festival in Serbia. This project started in 2008 as a film series devised by the Cervantes Institute in Belgrade and the Belgrade and Novi Sad Culture Centre, and it soon became the standard for other film festivals in the region.
This is the ninth festival so far and, for the first time, the festival will honour the winners of the Goya Award for the Best Original Score. The Spanish Academy of Cinematic Art and Science gives The Goya Awards every year.
The audience will be able to see the work of the composer Alfonso Vilallonga who will present one of the most outstanding European films in the last few years – a modern silent film called “Snowhite and Seven Dwarfs”.

8th Mikser Festival8 – 12 – Mikser House
The eighth Mikser Festival, the largest regional festival of creativity and innovation, will be held for the fifth time at more than 40 locations in Belgrade’s Savamala district, from 8th to 12th June, with the participation of 1,000 creators.
This year’s Mikser Festival comes under the moniker “Sensitive Society”, and will be characterized by themes of gender equality and female creativity, social equality, open dialogue, multiculturalism and more efficient conflict resolution.
The focus of this year’s Mikser Festival is threefold. In the spotlight are female creativity and gender equality, as well as the refugee crisis and possible directions for integration into European society, and, lastly, the opening of a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas.
Mikser Festival aims to explore the social concepts with which citizens and creative professionals can influence current social processes to improve the quality of everyday life, open the way for more direct cooperation with sensitive and vulnerable groups, and promote humane values, empathy and love.
The program will be divided into several segments, including Mikser Talks, exhibitions, workshops, lectures, debates, performances, music, children and youth programs, Mikser Cinema, with the removal of boundaries based on gender, age, racial, ethnic, religious or cultural differences that people face as the common denominator.

5th Round of Concerts of the Best Students from the Belgrade Faculty of Music10 – Guarnerius – 20:00
Minja Marčetić – flute, and Gabor Henjel – clarinet
Two young artists, students of the Faculty of Music (FMU) in Belgrade, flutist Minja Marčetić and clarientist Gabor Henjel, will perform on the Guarnerius stage on Friday, 10th June 2016, at 20:00, as a part of the fifth round of the FMU and Guarnerius Award event. Both Minja and Gabor have been successful in national and international competitions.

Esma Redzepova & Mostar Sevdah Reunion12 – Mikser House – 21:00
Dubbed by many as “the most beautiful voice in the Balkans,” Esma Redžepova will perform at Miksalište on 12th June, on the last day of the Mikser Festival. During her five-decade career, Esma has performed at the most popular world festivals and won numerous prestigious awards. She is also a known humanitarian and has contributed much to the wellbeing of our society. She has adopted and raised 47 children, and donated money for the opening and renovation of several hospitals and orphanages. She also uses her music to promote the rights of the Roma people. Esma is a recipient of the UNICEF award and has been nominated twice for the Nobel Peace Prize.
She recorded 20 albums and over a hundred singles in her musical career. Because of her incredible voice, prolific song writing, and has a career that spans several decades, she is recognized as one of the most important artists on the world music scene. Esma Redžepova will perform at the Mikser Festival on 12th June as a special guest of one of the best world music bands, Mostar Sevdah Reunion, with whom she has already collaborated in the past. Following their very successful, sold-out concert in November, the band is performing again before the Belgrade audience at the Mikser Festival.

Otello18 – National Theatre – 19:00
Often cited as Italian opera’s greatest tragedy, Otello is a miraculous union of music and drama, a masterpiece as profound philosophically as it is thrilling theatrically.
Shakespeare’s tale of an outsider, a great hero who cannot control his jealousy, was carefully moulded into a taut and powerful opera text, by librettist Arrigo Boito. Otello almost was not written: following the success of Aida and his setting of the Requiem mass in the early 1870s, Verdi considered himself retired, and it took Boito and publisher Giulio Ricordi several years to persuade him to take on a major new work.
Forest Fest 201618-19 – Paštrić
Serbia can be proud of its beautiful landscape. One such gem is called Mionica and it is found 25km from the town of Valjevo. In the vicinity of Mionica, there is the village of Paštrić. Its surroundings are one of the most breathtaking places in the country. For the second consecutive year, Paštrić is home to the Forest Fest. The festival will take place in a wooded valley with beautiful pastures that is perfect for such events. The line-up includes Middle Mode, Octohertz, Tropical Bleyage, Side Winder and others.
5th Belgrade Festival of European Literature21-24 – Dom Omladine Beograda
In cooperation with Dom Omladine, the Arhipelag publishing house is staging the 5th Belgrade Festival of European Literature from 21st to 24th June.
The Belgrade Festival of European Literature is one of the most popular literary events in Serbia. The festival is frequented by both young and old attracting a much wider than typical literary events. The Festival comprises of four full-length multimedia literary programmes – seven readings by renowned national and international writers, four film projections as a part of the Literature on Film retrospective, a panel discussion about contemporary culture called “The Rise of Tabloid Man” and an exhibition of etchings called “In Autumn, When Winds Begin to Howl” by Ivana Ristić, inspired by Danilo Kiš’s book “Early Sorrows”.
The main literary star of the 5th Belgrade Festival of European Literature is Israeli writer David Grossman, author of bestsellers “See Under: Love”, “To the End of the Land” and “Falling Out of Time”. The Belgrade Institute’s Literature Café Goethe will also be featured.
Riggoletto22 – Narodno Pozorište – 19:30
One of the most exciting and gritty operas, Rigoletto is not for the faint-hearted. Rigoletto is the first of Verdi’s middle period operas and marks a shift towards coherent musical tapestries as opposed to the typical Italian aria format (though Verdi by no means leaves the form behind).
It’s an opera with extremes but also a sense of moral ambiguity. The grim palace of the Duke is contrasted by the tranquility and isolation of Gilda, Rigoletto’s daughter. Gilda gets some of the most divine music, particularly in the Act I aria Caro nome, in English Sweet name. Verdi also cleverly gives the despicable Duke some devilishly charming music, you’ll probably recognise La donna è mobile, Woman is flighty. Rigoletto himself gets no flashy arias, his music is punchier and more declamatory, an uneasy mix of both worlds.
Simply Red23 – Tašmajdan – 19:00
One of the biggest mainstream bands in the world, Simply Red, will perform in the highly acoustic open air spaces of the completely renovated Tašmajdan Stadium, on 23 June.
The re-formed band, which sold 55 million records, is celebrating 30 years of their career and promoting their new album with the ‘Big Love’ tour.
Antonia Mirat24 – Guarnerius – 20:00
Award-winning soprano from Split, Croatia, who currently lives in Vienna, Antonia Mirat will perform at Guarnerius as a part of a project of regional cultural cooperation. Antonia has been a successful soprano since a very young age and is known for her exceptionally beautiful voice, appreciated all over the world. Antonia, who studied under Sona Ghazarian, Teresa Berganza and Montserrat Caballe, is performing for a Belgrade audience for the very first time.

’The Two Gentlemen of Verona’, Globe Theatre, London28 – National Theatre – 19:00
The famous Globe Theatre from London will perform Shakespeare’s play, “The Two Gentlemen of Verona”, directed by Nick Bagnall, on the Main Stage of the National Theatre on 28 June.
This is the second performance in Belgrade by the famous English troupe, following their successful rendition of Hamlet two years ago. This time around, the Globe Theatre is performing one of their newest productions.
Begnall, true to his innovative direction, offers a rather anarchic version of Shakespeare’s early work from 1591 with an emphasis on music. The production design is typically Elizabethan, inspired by the authentic artwork from that era. This riotous comedy is led by an ensemble of actors who will delight with songs, romance and creative chaos.
Exhibition: ‘Pupin – From Physical to Spiritual Realityuntil 30th June – The History Museum of Serbia – 10:00-22:00
This unusual interactive setting, showcasing the most comprehensive cross-section of the life and work of Mihajlo Idvorski Pupin, can be seen in Belgrade until the end of June.
The exhibition shows why the FBI was monitoring Pupin’s work, his numerous patents, his involvement in the establishment of NASA, and his relationship with US President Woodrow Wilson, Nikola Tesla, Albert Einstein and other luminaries of that era.
What makes this exhibition a unique museum experience for visitors is its interaction with the latest technology. Visitors can download a free Pupin app on their mobile phones or tablets and every segment of the exhibition is interactive, containing both audio and visual content for visitors to learn about the life and work of this world-renowned inventor.
For the first time ever, visitors will be able to see very unique pieces – Pupin’s personal library and art collection on loan from the Belgrade National Museum and is comprised of masterpieces by painters like Paja Jovanović, Uroš Predić, Konstantin Danilo, Vlaho Buhovac and others.
