Ms. Azza El-Abd Belgrade Mission Director
Azza El-Abd was sworn in as the Mission Director for Serbia on August 25, 2014. As Mission Director for Serbia, Ms. El-Abd will be responsible for managing USAID’s program with the objective of supporting Serbia’s efforts to strengthen democratic practices and institutions and stimulate economic growth.
Ms. El-Abd most recently served as Mission Director for Lebanon, where she oversaw USAID’s development assistance program to improve the quality of public services, bolster civil society and expand economic and education opportunities across Lebanon. From 2010-2012, she was the Deputy Mission Director and Acting Mission Director for USAID/Kosovo.
Prior to her Kosovo assignment, El-Abd served in Washington, D.C., as the Agency’s acting director of the Office of Central America and Mexico Affairs, where she provided strategic direction for various programs in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Panama. She also provided guidance for the Central America Regional Program as well as limited programs in the non-presence countries of Belize and Costa Rica.
From 2008 to 2009, El-Abd served as the supervisory program officer in Pakistan, providing policy and program guidance for more than $1 billion in assistance. Her other overseas tours include Uganda, Hungary, Nepal and Indonesia. She also served in Washington as deputy director of the Office of Middle East Affairs and as general development officer in the Asia and Middle East Bureaus.
El-Abd holds a Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alexandria and a Master’s Degree in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. She speaks both Arabic and Spanish.
Launched in December 2015 by the Belgrade Initiative for Digital and Public Diplomacy ( BIDD), the Diplomatic Portal is a gateway to easily accessible information and certain online facilities at the service of diplomatic missions, consular posts and international organizations in Serbia.
It aims to be an important information channel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Diplomatic Missions providing, thus, an increased interaction among the members of the Diplomatic Corps, and serving as a platform for connecting diplomats accredited to Belgrade. . In this newly updated version of the Diplomatic Portal 2015, you will also find information about the latest news from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic news from the embassies and international organizations, relating to a vast array of diverse events such as seminars, workshops, film festivals, sport tournaments or concerts that are of relevance to the Diplomatic Corps in Belgrade as well as the information on National Days celebrated by the foreign embassies in Belgrade and the presentation of credentials.
