On September 23, in the “Svetozar Marković” University Library, the Red Cross of Serbia, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the regional delegation in Belgrade and the Embassy of Switzerland in Serbia marked the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions with a panel discussion and exhibition entitled “Dialogues on Humanity”

Those present were addressed at the beginning by prof. Dr. Dragan Radovanović, President of the Red Cross of Serbia, H.E. Ane Lugon-Mulin, Ambassador of Switzerland in Serbia, Mrs. Katarina Lalić Smajević, Assistant Minister for Multilateral Cooperation, Mrs. Jelena Stijačić, Head of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Belgrade and prof. Dr. Aleksandar Jerkov, director of the University Library in Belgrade.

After the introductory presentations, university professors in Serbia held a one-hour panel discussion moderated by prof. Dr. Vesna Knežević Predić. The event ended with the opening of the “Dialogues on Humanity” exhibition, which consists of 29 photographs that have a direct or indirect connection with humanitarian principles.

Everyone agreed that the Conventions are as relevant today as ever, but that due to new circumstances, it is necessary to include new ways of warfare and to return to the basic postulates of humanity.
