Emergency Information for American Citizens
The “Platinum Wolf 25” multinational tactical exercise was held at South Base from June 12-27, 2025 near Bujanovac, organized by the Serbian Armed Forces with the support of the US European Command.
The exercise was focused on improving interoperability and mutual understanding between the armed forces of partner countries through peacekeeping training in a multinational environment.
More than 700 soldiers participated, including members of the Serbian Armed Forces and the armed forces of Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, United States of America. For the first time, members of the international organization Balkan Medical Task Force actively participated in the segments of the exercise involving medical assistance and medical evacuation in crisis situations.
The exercise took place at Serbia’s South Base, which was equipped primarily through U.S. European Command’s donations for peacekeeping operations.
Paul Jukic, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy said: “This peacekeeping operations exercise plays a critical role in meeting training requirements and preparing our forces for real-world peacekeeping missions. Platinum Wolf has been a cornerstone of our bilateral cooperation and is a notable priority for both Serbian and U.S militaries. We hope to see the Platinum Wolf Exercise continue for years to come and to find new ways to challenge our armed forces, enhance their capabilities, and improve their readiness”.
Brigadier General Jeffrey Watkins, Ohio National Guard Ground Forces Commander said he was grateful for the opportunity for members of the U.S. Armed Forces to participate in this year’s “Platinum Wolf” exercise and to train alongside their Serbian counterparts. “It is important that we train together to assess our capabilities, to use equipment jointly, and to practice tactics, techniques, and procedures. As you could see during the exercise, we are building cohesion and strong teams among the participants,” said General Watkins.
Participants had the opportunity to practice peacekeeping tactics, techniques and procedures. Securing the base and a convoy, patrolling, setting up blockades and area searches were only some of the activities outlined in the exercise scenario.
Platinum Wolf exercises have been held in Serbia since 2014 and provide the opportunity to improving capacities and training of all participating countries’ armed forces.
