Reconstruction works in the Asylum Centre in Krnjaca, which started in January, have been successfully finalised in March. Within the Programme “EU Assistance to Migrants and Refugees in Serbia”, funded by the European Union throughout the Delegation of the EU in Serbia, the humanitarian organisation Danish Refugee Council adapted the Krnjaca Asylum Centre, by increasing accommodation capacity for additional 188 refugees.
Reconstruction works in the value of approximately 104.000 Euros have been conducted on three pavilions and three studios within the Centre. The works included renovation of floors, walls, doors, windows, roofs, sanitary blocks, electrical installations and radiators. Additionally, 94 bunk beds were delivered to the Centre last week.
Complementary minor shelter works were performed in the Centre premises by the Danish Refugee Council thanks to the synergy with DFID/Start Network funding.
Under the Programme “EU Assistance to Migrants and Refugees in Serbia” in total amount of 7.000.000 Euros, the Delegation of European Union has been assisting Serbia’s National and Local authorities and institutions in dealing with migrant’s crisis. The funds are used to increase their operational capabilities and the capacity to coordinate the assistance. Donation of equipment and necessary supplies for the Ministry of Interior and Commissariat for Refugees and Migration is provided, which will enable them to provide better services and assistance to migrants and refugees passing through Serbia.
The funds are also used to improve reception capacities in the country, by reconstruction of existing facilities and construction of new ones which will be able to accommodate more than 700 people. Ongoing (re)construction works on these facilities are carried out by partner NGOs – DRC, ASB and Help. The activities are being implemented in 7 municipalities: Belgrade, Bosilegrad, Dimitrovgrad, Pirot, Preševo, Subotica, Šid.
