2021-Digital Diplomacy’s Greatest Year
The universe, as we now know, began with a bang. A big bang to be precise. A cataclysmic and cosmic explosion that at once gave birth to more than 120 billion galaxies. Digital diplomacy also began with a bang, or a momentous event that instigated a global change in the practice of diplomacy. This event, according to many scholars, was Sweden’s 2008 decision to launch a digital Embassy on the virtual world of Second Life. While it is true that the telegraph, fax and email all predate Sweden’s digital Embassy, and while all these technologies are digital, none of them ushered the current age of digital diplomacy.
In retrospect, Sweden’s digital Embassy foretold how this digital age would evolve. First, Sweden never intended for its digital Embassy to replace its physical posts. Rather, the Embassy on Second Life would be used to augment Sweden’s diplomatic efforts by creating the world’s first, global Embassy accessible to anyone with an internet connection. Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information Maja Gojkovic signed today the Principles of Cooperation and Promotion of Coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture and Information in the field of public and cultural diplomacy.
At the joint press conference after the meeting, Ministers Selakovic and Gojkovic stated that the joint efforts to popularize our culture would continue, both in the most important world capitals and in areas where it is well known, such as the countries of the region.

Diplomatija promišljanja i diplomatija (pre)brzog reagovanja
Danas, na početku treće decenije 21. veka živimo u vremenu brzih i digitalizovanih komunikacija koje su u velikoj meri uticale na promenu načina na koji se određeni poslovi obavljaju. Jedan od tih (globalnih) poslova je i opštenje – pregovaranje među državama koje nazivamo diplomatijom.
Klasična diplomatija, koju ću ovde nazvati diplomatijom promišljanja, danas se u velikoj meri takmiči sa diplomatijom brzih reakcija („danas za danas“). Nekada je diplomata opštio sa centralom isključivo putem telegrama i pošte koju su dostavljali kuriri odnosno putem zaštićene telefonske veze. Takvi vidovi komunikacije su zahtevali određeno vreme za plasiranje informacija koje su neretko bile dobro analitički obrađene i za koje je bilo vremena da se detaljno sagledaju u centrali odnosno u diplomatsko-konzularnom predstavništvu (DKP).

LinkedIn recently announced it will be shutting down its mainland China version of the platform. This wasn’t another case of the Great Firewall switching off the lights for a global social media platform. It was a voluntary decision by LinkedIn, as China continues to expand its censorship of the internet.
The Microsoft-owned service had censored posts, in compliance with local laws, to operate in China. In recent months, the profiles of academics and researchers have been reportedly blocked on the platform. Then in September, LinkedIn blocked several U.S. journalists, citing “prohibited content” in their profiles.

In the year when the Serbian Association of Managers celebrates its 15th anniversary, the Association gave out the traditional Annual Awards to the best managers, employers and CSR companies in Serbia for the 10th consecutive time
The awards for the best leaders of the 21st century were given in four main categories. Due to exceptional business results and visionary approach to business, in the Manager of the Year 2021 category this year, the Association gave two awards for the same category – to Dragan Filipović, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Generali Osiguranje, and Predrag Mihajlović, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of OTP Bank Serbia.
