The U.S. Ambassador in Belgrade, Anthony Godfrey, and his wife, Anne, bought two exceptional-quality kilims from hard-working women gathered in Ethno Network. They also set a good example of responsible buying, by supporting small producers to overcome the consequences of the pandemic. “The Godfrey family are great advocates of heritage preservation and economic empowerment of women, and Mrs. Godfrey has participated in our colonies several times, learning the secrets of the weaving craft, side by side with the most skilled weavers,” said Violeta Jovanović, president of the Ethno Network and Executive Director of NALED. The Migration for Development Programme, as part of the broader initiative “Returning to New Opportunities”, provides direct and concrete support not only to returnees in Serbia, but also to the local population, while the Migration and Diaspora Programme promotes the development aspect of regular migration and cooperation with the diaspora. The public administration reform, which has been under way for a number of years now in Serbia, also envisages the introduction of innovations in the human resources management system. The German Development Cooperation, in partnership with the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government (MPALS) and the Human Resources Management Office (HRM) published three manuals providing guidelines for the implementation of a competency-based human resources management system, intended for all civil servants including those who will become civil servants in the future. These manuals also provide guidelines for the application of new regulations in the human resources field, specifically for determining the competencies of civil servants, recruitment and performance assessment.
