The SI scholarships within the Western Balkans programme aims to forge closer relations between the Western Balkans and the EU through the promotion of democratic, economic and social development. Students and researchers from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia can apply. Ideal candidates are ambitious young professionals with outstanding academic qualifications, demonstrated leadership skills and a clear idea of how a study/research visit in Sweden would benefit their country.
Levels of education:
• Full-time master’s level studies (1 or 2 years)
• Part of PhD studies or Postdoctoral research (6, 9 or 12 months)
Eligible fields of study/research:
• Democracy/Human rights/Gender issues
• Economics and management
• Environmental studies
• European studies
• Social and political studies

Number of scholarships for master’s, PhD or postdoc levels in total (for all 3 levels): approximately 16
The chances to receive a scholarship according to the previous years’ statistics are:
Approximately 5% for master’s level
Approximately 20% for PhD, postdoctoral level
Key dates for the application rounds:
Full coverage of tuition fees, as well as living expenses to the amount of SEK 9,000 per month, plus one travel grant of SEK 5,000 and health and property insurance.
Monthly scholarship of SEK 15,000, and insurance.
Monthly scholarship of SEK 18,000, and insurance.
Also, all scholarship holders enjoy the opportunities offered within the SI Network for Future Global Leaders and, later on, within the SI Alumni Network.
