The Red Cross in Sremska Mitrovica, Ruma, Vršac and Plandište, as well as two organizations from Šid – the Centre for the Development of Srem and the Šid Environmental Humanitarian Centre received support in the form of IT and personal safety equipment. This includes 20 laptops, tablets and monitors; 10 printers, scanners and projectors and 50 smaller devices such as the mobile phones, cameras and speakers. In addition to computer equipment, the donation also included more than 4,000 personal safety equipment items and 65 contactless thermometers.
For over a year, civil society organizations have been finding ways to support vulnerable groups, in spite of the social distancing and movement restrictions related to the pandemic. Social services that can be provided by phone or online, such as call centres, received support in the form of new devices to secure the availability and continuity of services. Where physical contact is required, personal safety equipment will contribute to the safety of social workers while they are providing care services to beneficiaries.
“Thanks to our long-standing cooperation with towns and municipalities, we tailored support to the needs of civil society organizations in each local government. The pandemic imposed the need to move many activities online, and in this respect, IT equipment will play a helpful role in ensuring efficient service delivery. Where activities could not be moved online, GIZ remaines committed to supporting social workers and volunteers who provide care to those most in need”, stated Iva Vučićević from the GIZ.
The IT and personal safety equipment were provided by the German-Serbian Development Cooperation project Social Services for Vulnerable Groups and its special measure that supports vulnerable groups during the Covid-19 pandemic. The project is implemented by GIZ.
