Gojkovic Meets with Members of Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the members of the Presidency of Bosnia is all in favour of the development of relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted political dialogue.
The National Assembly Speaker said that the way to a better future in the region leads through active cooperation in matters of mutual interest and Serbia has on multiple occasions shown a clear wish to further the relations between the two countries.
Gojkovic said that interparliamentary cooperation is an important segment of bilateral relations and she expected the heads of the two chambers of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to visit Serbia which would be an excellent opportunity to enhance cooperation at the level of parliamentary committees, especially in the spheres of European integration and foreign affairs, as well as at the level of parliamentary friendship groups and standing delegations in international interparliamentary organizations.
The Parliament Speaker said that both sides are interested in strengthening cooperation related to European integration which is important for the entire region and stressed that peace and stability in the region are essential for the progress of each of the countries in the region and the region as a whole.
The Chair of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Covic said that the talks in Belgrade have so far been sincere and open and the number of outstanding issues between the two countries has been falling and he believes all of them could be resolved quickly though intensive communication.
Covic said that there is a need for intensive communication at the legislative as well as at the level of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Serbian Government, emphasizing the importance of the coming visit of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Serbia to that end.
Covic said that the cooperation at the political level could do well to follow the upward trend of the economic relations and the growing foreign trade.
The meeting also touched on the construction of infrastructure to improve the connectedness of the two states and the potential for cooperation on joint projects.
