University Partnership Program

The U.S. Embassy works to assist the Serbian people to strengthen democracy, rule of law, and the protection of human rights; help fight brain drain and advance the country’s economic development; promote regional stability and cooperation; cooperate with international partners to combat crime, terrorism, human trafficking, and other global challenges; and make further progress towards Serbia’s accession into the European Union. We also strive to explain U.S. policies, culture, society, and values to Serbian audiences and deepen ties between our two countries. University partnership proposals should support these goals while facilitating lasting connections between Serbian and American institutions of higher education.

Democracy Commission Small Grants Program
Availability: Currently not receiving applications
The purpose of the Democracy Commission Small Grants Program is to award grants for specific projects that support democracy and the development of democratic institutions in the Republic of Serbia. Grants will be primarily awarded to non-governmental (NGOs) and other non-profit organizations with projects in the regions outside of Belgrade. The maximum amount of a grant is $50,000, but smaller grants are preferred in order to support more projects. To be eligible for consideration, every applicant must be registered in the territory of the Republic of Serbia and engaged in, or propose to carry out, a project whose purpose is to further the development of democratic institutions in Serbia, especially in local municipalities. Alumni Small Grants Program

The Alumni Small Grants Program, apportioned for alumni of U.S. Government exchange programs, is intended to promote alumni leadership and networking, as well as facilitate cooperation with the U.S. Embassy Belgrade in strategic fields for the future of Serbia: environmental awareness, strengthening the rule of law, promoting economic development, countering violent extremism and promotion of media literacy and critical thinking. Serbian-American Cooperation Grants Program

Public Diplomacy Small Grants issued through the Serbian-American Cooperation Grants Program (SAC) aim to strengthen ties between American and Serbian citizens as we work together to make progress toward our shared goals. Toward that end, PDS welcomes ideas for creative, engaging projects aimed at Serbian audiences that address the Embassy’s main objectives. The U.S. is striving to strengthen the Serbian-U.S. relationship and explain U.S. culture, society and values to Serbian audiences. We also want to lend assistance to the Serbian people through: promoting economic development; strengthening democracy; protecting human rights; advancing regional stability and cooperation; and making progress towards accession into the European Union. We are particularly interested in applications that focus on: 1) Fighting Brain Drain; 2) Equal Opportunity for People with Disabilities; 3) Human Rights; 4) Serbian-American Ties; 5) Regional Cooperation / Finding Joint Solutions to Common Problems; and 6) Education.

English Language Program Grants

The English Language Small Grants Program is intended to improve job prospects for Serbia’s citizens, expand access to information and knowledge, and promote critical thinking and media literacy. Proposals should use English language to address problems or challenges faced by your community, such as brain drain, limited job opportunities, or the spread of disinformation. Proposals may also utilize English as a bridge for increased communication and cooperation among neighbors within the Western Balkans, between citizens of Serbia and the United States, or between people from Serbia and EU member states. BOLD Grants Program

The BOLD (Balkanski omladinski lideri, Young Balkan Leaders in English) network is a new project of PDS that seeks to develop the leadership capacity of young Serbians by empowering them to implement projects for positive change in their communities in two thematic areas: civic engagement and economic development. It will launch in the fall of 2022 when anyone age 18-35 in Serbia will be able to join the BOLD network. Members will have the opportunity to compete for three main types of competitive opportunities: the BOLD Academic Fellowships Program, the BOLD Workshop Program, and the BOLD Small Grant Competition. PDS is looking for partners to help inspire the next generation of Serbians through these programs:

The U.S. Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation

The U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) supports the preservation of cultural sites, cultural objects, and forms of traditional cultural expression in more than 100 developing countries around the world. AFCP-supported projects include the restoration of ancient and historic buildings, assessment and conservation of rare manuscripts and museum collections, preservation and protection of important archaeological sites, and the documentation of vanishing traditional craft techniques and indigenous languages. Cultural heritage endures as a reminder of the contributions and historical experiences of humanity. By taking a leading role in efforts to preserve cultural heritage, the U.S. shows its respect for other cultures. We are currently not accepting applications for this program.
