First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic had a meeting today with the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry of the Republic of Zambia, Walter Mzembi, regarding the candidature of Zimbabwe for election to the post of Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization.

Thanking his host for the opportunity, Minister Mzembi informed of his nomination as African candidate at the elections for the next UNWTO Secretary General, presenting his vision of the further development of that Organization.

The highlights of Minister Mzembi’s presentation included the need for improving the UNWTO structure, tourism financing and more effective recognition of its importance in the world today. He further underlined the importance of strengthening cooperation among the six regional Commissions operating within the Organization.

Thanking for the presentation, Minister Dacic emphasized that the decision on the support of the Republic of Serbia would be made after it becomes familiar with the plans of all candidates.

The proposal for election of the relevant candidate for the post of UNWTO Secretary General will be submitted by the Organization’s Executive Council to the General Assembly meeting in China, September 2017.

The talks also touched upon the bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Zimbabwe, with both sides expressing readiness for their further strengthening and increasing the dynamics of the exchange of visits on the high and highest levels.
