Serbia improved its business environment – Doing Business 2016
World Bank Group published their annual Doing Business report on the 27 of October 2015. The report measures the regulations that enhance business activity and those that constrain it. Doing Business measures regulations eleven areas of the life of a business. Ten of these areas are included in this year’s ranking on the ease of doing business; starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts and resolving insolvency.
Serbia made a significant improvement in Doing Business 2016. Serbia went from 91st to 59th place, out of 189 countries, improving 32 places in the World Bank Ease of Doing Business compared to last year, which is an indicator that Serbia is improving and providing a safer business environment. Key areas where Serbia made an improvement and reason for the significant better ranking are dealing with construction permits and paying taxes. Especially, dealing with construction permits was an obstacle and reason for the previous poor ranking. However, reforms and a new digital system on construction permits that will be launch in the beginning of 2016 have created a better business environment.
Denmark was ranked 3rd with no change in ranking compared to Doing Business 2015.
